Sejak Sabtu lalu, ku ade misi...
Misi nak up kan productivity laptop ku...
Mula2, ku compresskan semua MP3 ku jadi 128 kb/s nyer bitrate.
Adela kot dekat 4,000+ MP3 yang ku kecikkan size.
It takes 27 hours.
Cian laptop ku lambat off...
Tau baper byk hard disk space ku sukses to recover?
A clean 8GB!
That's like 2mb of reduction from unnecessary best quality songs!

Dah recover banyak gile hard disk,
Tak puas gak...
So, ku delete la shortcuts and some crap files yang ade lam pelbagai drives...
Then, ku clean up bad registry entries.
Giving my system lighter workload katakan...
Tapi tu tak memadai,
Ku defrag lak registry structures...
Memang boost speed quite tremendously la...

Pastu, ku defrag hard drives...
Makan masa 2 jam gitu,
then ku try cold boot...
Dapat la around 1 minutes and 28 seconds!
Alamak...macam mana ni?
My previous Vista dapat boot around 1 minute je...

Ok, what the hell,
Ku pon syukur je la speed skang...
Maklumlah, spec laptop ku pon bukan at its best performance...

Ku terkejut dengan kelajuan yang dikurniakan Celcom Broadband arini...

Semasa ku sedang surfing,
ku terasa sangat mudah untuk memasuki FB...
lalu ku pergi ke Speedtest.net dan lihat speed sebenar:

kelajuan ini bersamaan dengan:
53 saat untuk download file 5MB,
141 minit untuk download 800MB.

kali kedua lak dibuat sambil download stuffs:

itu bersamaan dengan:
1 minit untuk download file 5MB,
193 minit untuk download 800MB.

dan pada kali ke3 dibuat dengan mendownload stuff guna 2 komputer...

itu bersamaan dengan:
2 minit untuk download file 5MB,
277 minit untuk download 800MB.

as korang sume leh nampak, hanya download speed ngan ping jer terjejas masa calculate in different usage environment...

ku skang tengah download @ 70kbps in average (max: 110kbps; min: 30kbps).

Browsers in Windows 7

Ladies and lads,

Accessing to the World Wide Web couldn't be much easier nowadays with many Internet browsers racing to stay on top of the league.

Between Google Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer, which browser will actually give you the best surfing experience?

So, I have decided to guide you in choosing the best internet browser for you.

This is my environment of testing the internet browsers mentioned above:

Processor: AMD Turion 64 X2 Processor (2 x 2.0 GHz, 2 x 512kb L2 cache)

Graphic card: ATI Radeon HD 3200 (256mb; 1GB shared)

RAM: 2 x 1GB 333MHz

Platform: Windows 7 Ultimate

Basically, the idea is to test how well the internet browsers serve the contents of the World Wide Web to the user. This has nothing to do with the start-up speed nor the surfing speed as they both are variables decided by the operating system's loads and the speed of the internet provided by your Internet Service Provider itself.

These browsers are put to the test:

1. Google Chrome 3.0.195.33 (Stable)
2. Google Chrome 4.0.223.16 (Beta)
3. Mozilla Firefox 3.5.5 (Stable)
4. Mozilla Firefox 3.6b3 (Beta)
5. Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0 (Stable)

The test is run using Futuremark's Peacekeeper: The Browser Benchmark and these are the results:

1. Google Chrome 3.0.195.33 (Stable)
2. Google Chrome 4.0.223.16 (Beta)
3. Mozilla Firefox 3.5.5 (Stable)
4. Mozilla Firefox 3.6b3 (Beta)
5. Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0 (Stable)

In average,

Summary

As you can see from the individual results, both Google Chrome 3.0.195.33 and Mozilla Firefox 3.6b3 having very high rendering quality compared to the other internet browsers tested during the test. In other word, both internet browsers are highly recommended for their ability to render and modify specific HTML elements used in typical web pages.

For Social Networking, Google Chrome 3.0.195.33 has the highest points. Social networking sites use JavaScript to provide navigation, forms and other features. These tests measure typical webpage functions, such as loading, sorting and searching for data. It's the best internet browser for Facebook, MySpace, Friendster, Hi5, Multiply, etc.

Google Chrome 3.0.195.33 yet again scores the highest in complex graphic tests. These tests use 'Canvas', a new web technology for drawing and manipulating graphics without external plug-ins.

Mozilla Firefox 3.6b3 has the best score in data array handling. Therefore making it the best internet browser among the browsers tested when it comes to the loading of the contents in a website.

DOM or Document Object Model Operation is lead by Google Chrome 3.0.195.33. Read more on DOM here.

The best browser in parsing text of different sizes and styles among the internet browsers tested is Google Chrome 3.0.195.33.

Conclusion

From the results above, Google Chrome 3.0.195.33 is the best internet browser among the 3 major developers in my Windows 7 Ultimate laptop. What about yours?

Windows Vista vs Windows 7 (Part 2)

Ladies and lads,

I will now continue my review left from part 1.

on both Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2 vs Windows 7 Ultimate.

Here are some of the cool common functions in both operating system:

1. ReadyBoost

- Boost up your computer by enlarging the computer cache by using your thumb drive up to 4GB in Vista and unknown limit in Windows 7!

2. Volume Mixer

- Controls the volume coming out from separate applications!

3. Desktop Gadgets

- Personalize your desktop with gadgets. In Vista, this can only be activated with Windows Sidebar but in Windows 7, the gadgets can be added without Windows Sidebar.

4. User Account Control

- This awesome feature is good for those who shared their computer to everyone else. Less nag screens compared to when it first introduced.

5. Explorer Search

- Ever thought of finding your favourite file within seconds by just typing a part of the filename? This is the solution. I found it really useful when I wanted to put music in different folders into my playlist :)

Back to the review guys :)

1. System Tray, Windows 7 win!:
- Vista: The System Tray have minor improvements compared to XP.
- Windows 7: The System Tray is awesome. Many improvements since XP. With a simple Wi-Fi connect without opening a new window just to select which network to choose, detailed Safely Remove Hardware feature and there's even Action Centre to solve a lot of problem in your computer!

2. Windows Startup, Vista win!:
- Vista: With minimum startup application, defragmented hard disk and registry structure, and ReadyBoost, the fastest startup time from switch on to ready-to-use desktop for this laptop is 1 minute and 8 seconds (Average out of 3 startups: 1 minute and 37 seconds).
- Windows 7: With minimum startup application, defragmented hard disk and registry structure, and ReadyBoost, the fastest startup time from switch on to ready-to-use desktop for this laptop is 2 minutes and 21 seconds (Average out of 3 startups: 2 minute and 26 seconds). Defying all review saying Windows 7 loads faster compared to other Windows but I do admit the speed is more consistent compared to Vista.

3. Compatibility, Windows 7 win!:
- Vista: Compatibility mode to run legacy applications only up to Windows XP Service Pack 2.
- Windows 7: Compatibility mode to run legacy applications up to Windows Vista Service Pack 2.

4. Windows Media Player, Windows 7 win!:
- Vista: The Windows Media Player 11 is just nothing but annoying, hard to use piece of media player with not much noticeable changes to common user other than it's interface.
- Windows 7: The Windows Media Player 12 is awesome. Plenty of features for ease of use like you'll find saving your playlist is much easier than before and searching songs in your media library even faster! The only bad thing about it on 7 is that no more Windows Media Player toolbar on the Windows 7 taskbar :/

In conclusion,

I will suggest users to use Windows Vista first if you're way too comfortable with Windows XP.

Around 2-3 months using Vista, then I'll suggest users to upgrade to Windows 7.

This might not be a good review but at least you have the basic idea on how an operating system should meet a user needs.

This review is written based on ease of use.

Regardless on how great the software installed, the actual performance of an operating system is up to the user itself.

My credibility?

I might not have much credibility to make this review but I'll write out why I feel like I got the rights to compare both operating system:

1. Experience

- I have used Windows Vista Home Premium for 1 year.

-Explored all the new Vista functions. I might not know how Windows Vista manage my RAM or my computer resource but I do know how to take care of it without having to format the laptop until I decided to.

- I've formatted 11 laptops before and installed Windows Vista / Windows 7 inside those laptops.

- I also troubleshoot Vista problems by myself with the help of Google and my personal experience.

2. Research

- Before I format my laptop into Windows 7, I've done several research and read a lot of articles regarding Windows Vista and Windows 7 to ensure which feature I have to compare.

- I spent 3 days (16 hours a day) to ensure my Windows 7 have the same software installed as my Vista.

3. Understanding

- I'm the kind of person that curiousity don't kill.

- I will try every possible functions inside every applications that I use.

- I have strong grasp on programming languages basics (Visual Basic/ Python/ C/ C++/ PHP/ Javascript/ HTML).

But if you're much better than me, know more about computer than me and have different opinion than me.

I won't make you to take this review seriously.

This review is made from 1 person point of view.

Windows Vista vs Windows 7 (Part 1)

Ladies and lads,

this is the post where I'll use my English back for the sake of general understanding among internet users.

We heard about Windows Vista and all the bad reviews from it, the fact is, they don't really do any trial like I did to my Vista.

Firstly, I will introduce the system:

I use the same laptop which is Compaq Presario CQ40-115AU, the spec as follows:

1GB 333MHz x 2 RAM

AMD Turion X2 (2.0GHz & 512kb x 2 L2 cache)

ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics (256MB/1GB)

With Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2 and Windows 7 Ultimate.

The software installed as follows:

1. Microsoft Office 2007
2. BitDefender Total Security 2010
3. Tune-Up Utilities 2010
4. Internet Download Manager 5.18
5. Google Chrome 3 & Firefox 3.5.5
6. Yahoo! Messenger 10; Skype 4.1; Windows Live Messenger 14
7. Stardock ObjectDock Plus 1.9
8. Adobe Photoshop; Flash; Illustrator; Acrobat Pro; Dreamweaver CS4
9. ACDSee Pro 3
10. Nero 9 HD
11. GOM Player; Spider Player
12. dbPowerAMP Music Converter 13.3
13. Cheat Engine 5.5

Basically, those are the basic software I have in the laptop.

I will now compare both operating system based on my point of view:

1. Taskbar, Vista win!:

- Vista: The quicklaunch is still awesome. Group same Windows comes with an option on how to arrange them for easy view like stacking, side by side or cascade them easily. The switch between windows function is cool, too.

- Windows 7: The quicklaunch is gone but there's an option to pin your favourite application on the taskbar with the cost of you cannot arrange each group of opened program nicely displayed on your screen. The theme color is much clearer compared to Vista.

2. Start Menu, Windows 7 win!:

- Vista: The option to customize the Start Menu is quite messed up and still XP-like. There's still classic start menu look to choose incase you're not familiar with the Vista start menu. The good thing is that, it has everything that you need for a start menu, and the bad thing is everything is not something that everyone needs. (but I do ;p)

- Windows 7: Simpler version of Vista's start menu but too bad, no more classic start menu, Windows 7 suddenly meant for those who have used Vista and cause inconvenience to XP users. I do enjoy the search function ^^

3. Windows Explorer, Vista win!:

- Vista: I like the user interface here. A nice improvement from Windows XP and everything is tweakable/customizable to make the user interface much XP like (which is darn easy to use and easier to browse your files) and increase work productivity with the search function.

- Windows 7: What's wrong with My Documents/Documents? They renamed that to Libraries and gosh I don't like the Favourite thing...can we remove it? Since it's not my favourite at all. But yes, everything still can be customized to look like XP but by default, it uses Windows 7 look completely.

4. Desktop, Windows 7 win!:

- Vista: In Vista Ultimate, user can have animated wallpaper :D

- Windows 7: The animated wallpaper is no more :/ but the ease of use is superb, no more anoying Windows Sidebar! Just the gadgets ^^
